ZIP Express Quick Start Guide

ZIP Express is a Windows based software utility allowing easy look up of U.S. ZIP Codes and their associated cities, states, counties, area codes, time zones and current time.

It's power goes well beyond this by providing the capability to actually read a ZIP Code from your application (or clipboard) and pasting information back directly into your program (or clipboard) in just about any format that you desire.

This guide will explain a few basic concepts of ZIP Express that may help you better understand the program.

Starting ZIP Express

By default, ZIP Express loads when Windows starts up.  Do one of the following to open the ZIP Express window:

1. Left click on the ZIP Express icon in the Task Bar.

2. Press the Alt + Up Arrow keys or Alt + Left Mouse click to open the program window.

ZIP Express contains all US ZIP Codes (over 42,000) along with the corresponding city, county, state and area code. This data is updated quarterly and may be downloaded as a free update to the program.

Lookup Utility

You can search the database by ZIP Code, city, county, state or area code. As you begin to key in your search criteria, potential matches will be displayed allowing you to watch the possibilities be narrowed down as you type.

Paste ZIP Information into Other Applications

ZIP Express allows you to automatically paste ZIP Code information directly into your Windows applications via hot keys. Over 80 hot keys may be assigned commands.

For example, create a hot key combination of the CTRL+SHIFT+J keys. Press the hot with the cursor in a word processor and a ZIP Code entry box opens. Type in a ZIP Code and the associated city, state, county and ZIP Code are inserted into the word processor or similar program.

Or set up another hot key to scan the ZIP Code in an address data base and watch the cursor back up 3 fields and type in the city, state and county.

Evaluation Period

The evaluation copy of ZIP Express is fully functional for 30 days. The bar in the lower left corner of the ZIP Express window displays how much longer the evaluation period will last. If the evaluation period expires you will no longer be able to view the data.

If you purchase a license, you will be provided with a code to enter into the program to turn your evaluation copy into a fully licensed version. At this point the program will not expire and will continue to run properly.

Export Data (additional fee required)

For an additional fee you may add a second license to the program which will allow you to export all of the ZIP Code data to a .csv file. A single quarterly update costs $19.95 and an annual subscription is $59.95.

Export the entire database or export by state or other criteria. Use the exported data as needed.
